The Story of Rye Farms: A Gift from Generous Hearts

In 2020, a remarkable vision took root at Rye Farms, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring our local creek and revitalizing the farm to create positive outdoor experiences for children. This vision was made possible thanks to the generosity of a local Christian family and a Southern California Construction Company that believes in the transformative power of nature.

Restoring Our Creek and Farm

The journey began with a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community enrichment. Recognizing the importance of nature in children’s lives, our donors came together to seed the restoration of the creek—a vital ecosystem that supports local wildlife and enhances the beauty of our farm. Their contributions have enabled us to:

• Revitalize the Ecosystem: Our team worked diligently to remove the invasive arundo and restore native vegetation along the creek banks, improving water quality and providing habitats for local species.

  • Conservative estimates had the removed Arundo consuming roughly 8,000,000 gallons of water a year. In June 2022, the creek completely stopped flowing and dried.

• Create Safe Outdoor Spaces: With the restoration efforts, we’ve established safe and inviting areas where children can explore, play, and learn about the natural world.

Empowering Children through Nature

At Rye Farms, we believe that every child deserves the chance to connect with nature and experience its wonders. With the support of our donors and in partnership with local outdoor enrichment programs, public schools, and churches, we have developed programs that inspire curiosity, foster learning, and encourage a love for the outdoors. Our initiatives include:

• Hands-On Learning: Children participate in interactive workshops that teach them about ecology, farming, and conservation—skills that are essential for the next generation of environmental stewards.

• Community Engagement: We host family events, volunteer days, and educational programs that bring families together to celebrate nature and strengthen community bonds.
